Fearless Records

How Fearless Records used Messenger instead of E-Mail to connect with fans at Warped Tour

Fearless Records, the iconic imprint, home to 28 rock bands within the Concord Music Group used a Messenger bot from Stashimi instead of email signups at the 2018 Warped Tour to gather fan contact information.

During the national Warped Tour, Fearless Records asked fans who stopped by their merch booth to connect with the label on Messenger which would give them a chance to spin a wheel and win various prizes including a multi-vinyl package.

The messenger bot offered value to fans by posting daily Warped Tour set-times for the Fearless bands and by posting daily updates. Using the Messenger code, generated in the bot dashboard, fans could connect with the label in one-two seconds, and the label could capture contact information without fear of mistyping digits or finding handwritten signups illegible. Moreover, when the contact information was obtained, rather than an email list with a 3% click-through rate, the label had thousands of fans connected on Messenger.

How were the click-through rates for these fans? On June 12, it was 78.8%. Then, the list grew during the next week by 41%. On Jun 21, the click-through rate was 92.9%.

The list continued to grow by another 33% while still retaining an extremely high click-through rate. By the end of the summer, the label was able to promote new music from artists such as As It Is (Great Depression) with 32% CTR among the overall label list to alert fans to new music.

The trick here for Fearless is that they are able to cross promote. Fans sign-up because they love one or more bands on the label. Yet opting in for notifications from the label, the fans get alerts about new music by other bands as well, for instance, a 32% click-through rate on new music by just one of the bands on the label. This enviable click-through rate stands out further when one recognizes not every fan on the Fearless Messenger chatbot subscribed because of this one particular band.
